On Wednesday, March 27th, we will have the pleasure of hosting Michelle Stinson Ross at our monthly event. Michelle, a Managing Director at Apogee Results, will be with us to share her presentation, How to Build an Influencer Network.

We thought it might be nice to get to know Michelle a bit more before we see her in person at Rocket55 in Minneapolis on the 27th. We hope you’ll find the answers to these questions as insightful and endearing as we did! And be sure to bring your own questions with you for our event. See you there!

Meet the Speaker: Michelle Stinson Ross

1. What can attendees expect to take away from your session?

Partnering with influencers is far more than just Instagram and YouTube. Influencer marketing has been around ever since brands could get well-known people to mention them. (I will have an example from the 1760’s!) Hopefully, you’ll expand your definition of an influencer and then discover opportunities to work with cultivated audiences for link building, social media and PR.

2. What top 3 skills and/or characteristics are important to have in your line of work?

The ability to communicate well, lots of professional curiosity and zero fear of failure. There are going to be lots of things we try that “fail” but those failures are just forks in the road that lead to the things that work.

3. Which marketing tool could you not live without?

There isn’t one that I couldn’t live without. In social media, in particular, things change so much that the tools that worked one year are useless the next. Objectives and therefore what we measure from client to client and campaign to campaign are so custom that I find I use a crazy mashup of all kinds of tools to get the job done.

4. What piece of career advice would you give your younger self, knowing what you know now?

Keep doing what you’re doing and follow every rabbit trail that interests you. Much of my career success is due to insatiable curiosity and no fear or shame about asking questions. I’ve cultivated THE BEST friendships and industry connections by asking super-smart people tons of questions.

5. Besides Digital Marketing, what is one topic of discussion that you could talk about for hours on end?

The Golden Age of Piracy in the Caribbean. I’m so fascinated by the history and stories of the era that I’m writing a second novel. ????

6. Where can we connect with you online?

LinkedIn and email if you want to dig deeper into marketing. If the crazy pirate stuff interests you at all, there’s Twitter and Facebook.

7. BONUS: What’s your favorite GIF? 🙂

Whatever one will best communicate the emotion of the moment—very often a unicorn will get it done.
