We’re thrilled to have Kirk Williams, a.k.a PPCKirk, as our guest speaker on Wednesday, May 29th. Kirk, owner of ZATOⓇ Marketing will be with us to share his presentation, The Complete Guide to a Profitable Shopping Ads Setup.

In case you’ve not met Kirk yet, we thought we might take a moment here to introduce him to you properly—and to get you excited to hear from him in person at Rocket55 in Minneapolis at the end of the month! (Not registered? No worries! Register here now.)

Meet the Speaker: Kirk Williams

1. What can attendees expect to take away from your session?

So much! We’ll talk about where to invest time in feed optimization, how to set up shopping campaigns for the best bidding (and thus, results!) possible, and we’ll dive into the nitty-gritty of Smart Shopping.

2. What top 3 skills and/or characteristics are important to have in your line of work?

The paid search marketers I see succeed the greatest are those who have the ability to make intelligent hypotheses from data points. That is, they’re not just data nerds; they can also read the data and use it successfully. They also do well at never accepting the easy answer, but digging, digging, digging. There is a healthy curiosity that moves past the easy points and finds the real reason or solution. Finally, the most successful PPCers are team players. I am constantly amazed at how “nice” the PPC industry is. There a lot of people who genuinely like to learn from and help others. This is an essential skill to have as a marketer in 2019 because people skills matter as the robots take over the spreadsheet-crunching skills!

3. Which marketing tool could you not live without?

It’s really not just one. There are many that we have become reliant on. Asana is our task management system that, along with Google calendar, keeps me from dropping everything. Optmyzr assists us in making smart optimizations in our accounts or building out big Shopping Ads accounts more rapidly than we could manually. Shape keeps our client budgets monitored which *really* helps me with peace of mind. Swydo is our reporting solution, and we have become dependent on it for our customized client reports that we send on a monthly basis.

4. What piece of career advice would you give your younger self, knowing what you know now?

Respect process OHHHH so much more than you did, young Kirk. Learn how to put things into a repeatable procedure that can be shared, taught, and implemented by yourself or others more easily. I relied far too much on my own head for too long in keeping things straight in selling to clients, setting up new Google accounts, training employees, etc.

5. Besides PPC, what’s one topic of discussion that you could talk about for hours on end?

Funny enough, theology! I have two degrees in theology and am active in my local church with teaching and reading. I love to discuss the finer points of what various verses/topics/themes in the Bible mean, especially as it pertains to getting as close as possible to the original author’s intent in writing! Also Star Wars, French Fries, and my family. They’re pretty awesome.

6. Where can we connect with you online?

If you type in PPCKirk just about anywhere, I should be there. But, I am most active on Twitter and LinkedIn (as PPCKirk). My website is zatomarketing.com, n which I maintain an active blog about Paid Search things (and sometimes ZATO announcements), especially Google and Bing Shopping tips and learnings.

7. BONUS: What’s your favorite GIF? 🙂

I’ve used one of these two more than all other GIFs combined!
